How to choose ABET accreditation software

Spreadsheets work for one program and one cycle. When several programs, dozens of instructors and six years of evidence are involved, software helps. These are the questions worth asking any vendor, including us.

Does it fit ABET?

Commissions and degree levels. Does it support your commissions (EAC, CAC, ETAC, ANSAC) and your degree levels?
The current criteria. Are this cycle’s criteria built in, including the Program Criteria for your disciplines, and updated each year?
Your outcomes model. Can you model objectives, Student Outcomes, performance indicators and course outcomes the way your program works?
The Self-Study Report. Does it produce the report in your commission’s outline, as an editable document, with the tables filled from your data?

Can you trust its figures?

Traceable. Can every attainment figure be traced back to the students, courses and assessments behind it?
Explained. Is the calculation method stated with the result, so an evaluator can follow it?
Stable. Does a reported figure stay the same when a grade is corrected later, or change silently?
Direct and indirect. Can survey results sit beside direct measures, as Criterion 4 allows?

Will people use it?

Roles. Do instructors, course coordinators, quality managers and deans each see what they need, and only that?
Getting data in. Can courses, outcomes and rosters be imported from the spreadsheets you already have?

Is the vendor a safe choice?

Your data. Where is it hosted, is it separated from other customers, and how is it backed up?
Pricing. Is it priced per department, per program or per user, and for how long?
A demo on your programs. Will the vendor show the product with your commission and your next review in mind?
